YOU or the CHAIR?
Me: I dwelled a little deeper and these are my recommendations.
Boss Looks great! Can you socialize this with our client groups?
Me: Boss, can you do it please. They listen to you better.
Boss: Why do you think so?
Me: I am quite junior, and I am not sure if I can handle all the questions.
Boss: Junior or Senior is just in our mind. You have researched enough on this and if there is a thought leader on this topic, it is none but you!
The last few recommendations you made to business; they did buy in because what you said was right for business.
Any of our client groups listen to us for two reasons:
YOU: It’s your thought leadership that they respect and will converse with you irrespective of the client groups you support. They clearly see a unique value YOU bring into the conversations.
The CHAIR: It’s your CHAIR that has the respect. They would listen and do things because of the position you hold in the organization. In this case its not you, anyone sitting in that CHAIR would get the same respect.
This conversation helped me see the unique value I brought into my conversations with people I interact with.
Why are people listening to you?
Is it YOU or the CHAIR?
